What's the best part about working at the intersection of #HigherEd and the #FutureOfWork? 🤔 #CareerServices professionals are constantly on a journey to optimizing programs & services for student & alumni needs while being mindful of the ever-evolving workplace. It's a dynamic, forward-thinking space within the higher education landscape that requires intensity, innovation, and a drive to support all generations in the workforce 💼 As a career services #EarlyCareer professional, I find it incredibly fulfilling and motivating to be at the center of workforce preparation, coaching, and exploration. When it comes to being a successful leader in the career services landscape, there are a few core principles to keep in mind ⬇ ➡ Practice what you preachIt can be easy, natural even, to advise students, alumni, and seasoned professionals on all things career development. It's one thing to tell someone to build their network and make meaningful connections to secure a new role, and it's a whole other to act on that advice yourself. Be a model of effective personal branding and professional development in the work that you do.➡ Be invested in what the workplace requiresIt's crucial to stay current on hiring trends, workplace competencies that employers are requiring, experiential learning opportunities, in-demand skills, and the steps it takes to successfully bridge from college to career, whatever that may look like.➡ Personalize while increasing accessThere's no denying that students and alumni prefer 1:1 appointments and tailored services. It feels good to speak with someone directly who has your best interests in mind. However, in order to sustain efforts and not burnout, especially at large institutions, it's important to consider how to reach ALL students with human touch in mind. Consider drop-ins & career labs, hybrid programming, pop-ups around campus, group appointments, and more to scale services. The best part about working in career services is the incredible connections to be made, the ability to support early career professionals and beyond, and the space to work in collaboration with employers to get students #CareerReady 👏

As an aspiring professional, I believe in the power of skills and potential to overcome traditional barriers based on school credentials. Recently, I had the privilege of being offered a role that may have seemed out of reach based on my educational background alone.Despite not meeting all the typical qualifications on paper, the hiring manager recognized the value of my skills, experience, and passion for the role. This experience reaffirmed my belief that opportunities should be based on what an individual brings to the table, rather than arbitrary credentials. It's inspiring to see how many individuals from the upcoming generation have succeeded without traditional schooling. From self-taught programmers to entrepreneurs who've built thriving businesses from the ground up, their stories underscore the importance of skills, determination, and resilience in achieving success.I'm grateful for organizations that prioritize skills and potential over rigid qualifications. By embracing this approach, they not only empower individuals like myself to showcase our abilities but also foster more diverse and inclusive workplaces.Let's continue to challenge outdated notions of qualifications and advocate for a hiring process that values skills, potential, and diversity. Together, we can create opportunities for everyone to succeed based on their merit and contribution. #SkillsOverCredentials #EmbraceOpportunity #DiverseWorkplaces #CareerGrowth
